Open by Andre Agassi

I

finished this in 24 hrs after picking it up on my brothers recommendation and I absolutely loved it. For someone who reads almost exclusively fantasy and science fiction this was a nice palate cleanser for the start of the year. Andre's story is incredible. Pushed from an extremely young age to be the best in the world by an indomitable dragon of a father his life is almost nothing but tennis. He trains, he competes, he wins and loses and as someone who remembers the constant epic battles between Agassi and Sampras as simply part of growing up it is remarkable to gain insight into the goings on behind the scenes. There is quite a sense of fate on this book as well, especially with his love life. Told be a friend that Brooke Shields was the one to pursue only to actually meet her years later and end up getting married to the constant presence of the alluring Steffi Graf in his life and a sense of something unfulfilled. It's interesting to learn a few tidbits as well, like Jimmy Connors was a prick who didn't even acknowledge Agassi on his retirement, standing in a locker room full of clapping professionals and him with a surly little look on his face and Pete Sampras was a shitty tipper. It's the little things. I really recommend this to anyone and everyone. Is there an autobiography you've read that you loved let me know please.
