The Rage of Dragons and more!
It's been a little quiet here recently so lets jump into it.
My review of The Bone Ships by R.J.Barker was published by the fine folks at Fantasy Faction! You can fine that review here
I've also been lucky enough to receive a huge stack of books this month including Jade City by Fonda Lee, Dark Age by Pierce Brown and several others I am incredibly excited to read.
Onto this weeks review of The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter!
The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter is epic heroic fantasy at its finest. It is both incredibly easy to read and impossible to put down because I finished it in a day and a half and 550 pages normally takes me a week or more to get though unless it is really good stuff.
Tau is a compelling character, a ‘common lesser’ in a ruthless hierarchical caste system whose only chance of bringing change to his people is to rise above his station and become the greatest swordsman the world has ever seen. It sounds a little ridiculous given the challenge facing him but through a clever manipulation of the world around him that involves the magic system it is not only possible but exciting and entertaining to experience. I find it hard to reveal too much more about the plot or character specifics for fear of spoiling absolutely anything.
I will say this. The battle scenes are incredible and ratcheted up to eleven. The political intrigue and plotting uncovers and reveals machinations at the best possible moments delivering gut punches to characters and readers alike with delightful regularity. Overall The Rage of Dragons has been praised almost unanimously, it’s definitely one of the most exciting books to come out this year and if you get the chance to grab a copy I highly recommend you doing so.
Thank you to the fine folks at Orbit for sending me a copy.
