Half a World by Joe Abercrombie. Published by Harper Voyager.

The first book in this series, Half a King, was criminally underrated and received a fraction of the praise it should have. Maybe fans of his Joe’s grimdark style thought he was betraying his trademark and never gave it a go, maybe some thought his foray in YA would be too much of a change of pace, maybe it got a bit lost among the incredible releases that we were given in 2014. Well f#*k all that. It was a brilliant piece of writing and if you don’t give it a go you’re a dick. I really enjoyed this part of the series and whislt it definitely has more for the young adult crowd in terms of romance, teen angst and hormore driven confusion there is more than enough hardcore battle action and political manouvering to ensure the more traditional fans will be happy.I’m certain that this will be one of the best books to release in 2015 and the final part of the trilogy releases near the end of the year so it’s a great time to jump on board if you have not already.

The Autumn Republic by Brian McClellan. Published by Orbit

Crimson Campaign was brilliant and a true example of a second book doing everything you could want it to. Major and minor characters were both fleshed out as the three major protagonists found themselves far more separated than before giving each their own space to develop. With no time passing between books it is easy to jump straight into this universe and see what the fuss is about. Lots of action and with a hero leading a losing army, a merciless trek through mountains and a father trying to rescue his family against a cunning and vicious enemy it is hard to put down. I’m hoping for the same from Autumn Republic

City of Savages by Lee Kelly. Published by Saga Press

It’s been nearly two decades since the Red Allies first attacked New York, and Manhattan is now a prisoner-of-war camp, ruled by Warden Rolladin and her brutal, impulsive warlords. For 17-year-old Skyler Miller, Manhattan is a cage that keeps her from the world beyond the city’s borders. But for Sky’s 16-year-old sister, Phee, the P.O.W. camp is a dangerous playground of possibility, and the only home she’d ever want.

I’ve not read this yet but the story intrigues me, and it has so far received solid ratings so I'm going to consider it for purchase.
